There will always be hype to a Mani Ratnam movie & this one was no different. I myself decided to watch it first day first show but was forced to see it the next day due to unforeseen circumstances. For me, I never like to know the story before watching the movie. It takes away the surprises & enthusiasm for the viewer. Did everything change that i was forced to watch it the 2nd day? I felt it did... but when i sat in the theatre n VEERA... sounded.. I knew i was going to enjoy this!! :)
There are different movies available .. a social message , commercial entertainer , drama , action & many more. So its up to us to choose the movie which we want & in an age where visit to cinemas is becoming like an expensive trip for the bourgeois, its understandable why so many reviewing sites and critics are welcomed by one and all. Here i would like to tell you one thing.. I am an aspiring film maker ( atleast on a small scale ) I would like to watch all kinds of movies & take what is best from it.
Reasons why i wanted to watch Raavanan :
1. Mani Ratnam & the Cast
2. Santosh Sivan
3. AR Rahman
4. The papers say that it s modern ramayana
After seeing the movie.. I felt .. this is a good movie and Santosh Sivan.. you made it possible. I dont think with this story depth , the movie would have been as good as what it is without this cinematographer. The characterisation was very good and acting was commanding especially Vikram. In some scenes he reminds us why people call him a very good actor. I ll admit that in patches the movie did slag but overall a very well made movie.
Aishwarya Rai - what can I say.. I accept that beauty has no age.. She is stunning. No doubt questioning that.. Modern Sita .. perfect she was brilliant. Vikram .. he is awesome.. ten headed ravanan with so much going through inside, he comes out as an HERO who we deserve but not the hero we want. Prithviraj , barring the point where chemistry between him n Mrs.Bacchan is lacking ( he looks like her bro in Kalvare ) , has done Sri Raaman act perfectly including the suspecting of Sita.
With so much details & so much epic reference and in depth characterisation , Mani scores well & I feel with so much pluses its ok to let go of the story depth.. AR Rahman music rocked.. Even though hindi lyrics sound better , tamil stands on its greatness :)..Semmozhiyaana Tamizh mozhiyaann... Overall a movie which is a MUST WATCH...
Santosh Sivan! You ll be remembered for the bridge fight. No words for it. Vikram holding his hands in that scene & talking about Rai (sita).. Toooooo goooood!!!! Kudos to MANI.. Seriously what a scene!!!!
PS: what ever said about the movie.. most claps to Ranjitha :) :) LOL
